How Changing Habits Can Change Your Life
Changing habits can have a profound impact on your overall development and help to increase your personal effectiveness.
At one point in my life where I felt like I had reached a plateau- things were not bad, but I just felt like I wasn't progressing very much.
I knew I needed to do something different. As I began getting motivated to change, I started looking at what I could change that would have the most immediate impact.
I started simple.
I decided to change a few daily habits involving my sleep, exercise, and diet. I was amazed at how these basic changes transformed my life.
I gained additional energy, focus, and enjoyed a more positive state of mind. I found myself wanting to be more social, productive, and active. Most importantly, these changes helped to increase my overall level of self motivation and gave me renewed drive to work on my goals. You might be surprised by how much impact the little things can have in your life. Take the time to look at your current patterns and habits, and think about what things you could change or improve. Making those basic changes and ingraining them as habits can give you a strong foundation to help you accomplish more in your life.
What are habits?
The first step in changing habits is to gain a better understanding of what they are and how they work. Habits are the things we do with minimal conscious effort. We act without having to think about what we are doing; we just go on autopilot. Habits are often formed from the repeated behaviors and patterns that you follow on a daily basis. Changing your habits
Initially, it may take a higher level of motivation to make a change in your habits, but once you do you will be able to achieve goals faster and more efficiently.
It is especially helpful to have positive habits when you hit a bit of a slump, as the habits can help you to maintain your motivation and momentum. Because of the effort it can take to change existing habits, I would recommend only a changing a few at a time. Tackling too many can quickly drain your energy and make it harder to sustain your motivation. Once you have had success in creating a few new habits, it will get easier to make additional changes. The are a few categories of habits that I would recommend working on first in order to increase your overall energy level and help with your self motivation efforts. Start with the basics, like creating a good eating habit, developing healthy sleep habits, and starting better exercise habits.
Once these basics are in place, you will have more energy to allow you to tackle your other bad habits and replace them with better habits.
