Create a New Habit Today and Change Your Life

Our habitual behaviors create our lives. Take the time to create a new habit and change your life.

You may be surprised how changing a simple behavior can have a huge impact on your overall life. We all have areas in our lives where we could improve, things we'd like to do better.

It can seem overwhelming to make radical changes in your life- it is much easier to start small. It could be something very simple, something that only takes a few moments of your time. Think about an area of your life that you've been neglecting, or something that you would like to improve.

Consider the Possibilities

Start Exercising
Would you like to get in better shape? If you are not already exercising, create a new habit like taking a walk in the morning, or doing sit ups before you take your shower. Just something simple that you could do every day.

Consider what would happen if you did this every day, what would be the result in a month? A year? Five years? It could be the catalyst that causes you to start dropping the pounds, gives you those washboard abs, or just starts getting you in better shape.

Start Writing
Have you ever thought about writing a novel? What would happen if you were to form a new habit like writing for just 20 minutes a day? Rather than turning on the t.v., pick up a notebook or sit down at your computer, and just write. It doesn't really matter what you write, just start doing it every day consistently. If you wrote 3 pages a day, in a year you would have written over 1000 pages. In five years you would have written over 5000 pages. With that much volume, your writing skills would sharpen and improve, and you'd probably come up with something worth reading.

Jump Start your Career
Would you like to excel at your work? If you took just a half an hour a day to work on a new skill, or learn a new technique, what impact would that have on your career? Think about the effect of spending that time on understanding a new computer program, reading management books, learning a programming language, how to build a website, reading about best practices in your industry, etc. Again, consider the long term impact if you were to create a new habit that improved your work skills, and consistently did it day after day.

Build Better Relationships
What about relationships? How would your life change if you formed the habit of meeting one new person every day? Your social confidence would improve, you'd meet a wide range of people, and probably make more friends.

If this became a lifelong habit, just think about the variety of people you would encounter, the ideas you would hear, the connections you would form and the perspectives you would gain. With connectivity of the internet, it would be very easy to meet people online, and in your day to day life, you probably encounter many people you don't know. Create a new habit of meeting just one person a day and your life will become infinitely richer.

Small Actions, Big Impact

I have offered just a few ideas, I'm sure you could come up with many more in your own life. Think about what you'd like to change in your life, and create a new habit today- just start doing one thing consistently. Get motivated by thinking about what long term change your new habit could make. One new habit that may not seem like much, but over time the impact will really add up. Do it now, and reap the benefits for the rest of your life.
